The right exercise to flat abs

Did you ever wonder which are the right exercises to do for flat abs? Are they sit ups or crunches? Maybe leg lifts would be good. Surprise! Even though these are good for toning the abdominal muscles, they will not actually reduce belly fat to reveal the abs underneath. Consequently, you could have a terrific set of abs, they’re just covered by your beer gut.

To really show off your flat abs you need to reduce body fat (below 10% for men and 16% for women). And, you can’t do that through thousands of sit ups because it’s impossible to spot reduce fat.

So, how do we burn body fat to reveal our flat abs?

Surprise again! One of the best ways to burn fat is to lift weights. The more muscle your body has the more fat your body burns.

But, which weight lifting exercises should I do?

Good question, because there are some exercises that are actually fairly useless and we want to make the most of our exercise time. The exercises you should concentrate on are referred to as compound exercises because they involve more than one muscle group. For example, the bench press works both the pectoral muscles and the triceps as opposed to curling which only works the biceps. There are a number of compound exercises but the primary ones are the: bench press, clean and jerk, military press, dead lift, Romanian dead lift, squat and lunges.

Beside the main muscle groups these compound exercises focus on, they also improve the strength of your body “core” or torso. Consequently, the work to tone and, yes, flatten your abs. Oh, one other thing. These exercises also help to increase your metabolism so that you burn more fat even when you’re not working out.
